May
10 – 18, 2008
On Wednesday evening 19th November, the Gŵyl Fai Dyffryn Nantlle committee shared
£6,500 between the Walton Centre in Liverpool and local
good causes. Since the yearly event started back in
1995, over £70,000 has been shared between various
charities.
£5,000 was donated to the Walton Centre in memory of Guto Williams from Penygroes
who died on August 10 last year following an accident
aged only 16. His parents Nesta and Gwynfor Williams
appreciated the help and support they received during
this time
and started a fund raising effort which raised over
£10,000 for the Unit. Two Consultants and three nursing
sisters, together with Helen Machin transplant co-ordinator
from the Royal Liverpool Hospital and Tony Murphy,
Patient Advice and Liaison Service Co-ordinator, all
travelled to Penygroes to meet Nesta and Gwynfor and
the Gŵyl Fai committee to receive the donations. The
£15,000 total raised will be used to buy important
equipment that will benefit patients of the Walton
centre in future.
Funds were raised during
a week packed with activities which included a sponsored
bike ride, craft activities for young children in the
Penygroes Library a disco evening for youngsters, family
treasure hunt, family bingo, plays by two amateur theatre
companies assisted by the Lleisiau Mignedd choir, bardic
competition, a comedy evening with Tudur Owen, Beth
Angell and Dewi Rhys, a crown green bowling tournament,
golffing tournament and a motor bike rally. The Nantlle
Vale Royal Silver Band opened the fun day in Market
Square Penygroes on Saturday with fancy dress competition,
stalls, face painting, games etc.
The success of the festival
each year proves that we have a lively, generous and
caring community in Dyffryn Nantlle and the Gŵyl Fai
Committee wish to thank everyone for supporting the
activities and for the generous sponsorship received
every year from local businesses.
