Assessing housing needs in Llandwrog Community Council area

As part of the Gwynedd Affordable Housing Project, Ymddiriedolaeth Tir Cymunedol Dyffryn Nantlle is working with Gwynedd Council to establish the local need for housing in the Llandwrog Community Council area.

Ymddiriedolaeth Tir Cymunedol Dyffyn Nantlle (YmTic Dyffryn Nantlle) is a not for profit community housing group based in Dyffryn Nantlle.

Dafydd Watts, YmTic Dyffryn Nantlle's Development Officer said:

“We are looking at possible sites for developing housing for local people who cannot afford to buy a house on the open market. Most of the houses would be for sale at a discount compared with the open market.”

YmTic Dyffryn Nantlle has received support from the Tudor Trust charity and from Gwynedd Council to help with the cost of developing its ideas.

As part of this work every household in the area will receive a local housing needs survey form. The purpose of the survey will be to collect information on the local housing needs in addition to discovering how many of the local population are in genuine need of affordable housing.

Councillor Eric Merfyn Jones, local member for the Groeslon ward on Gwynedd Council said:

“It is essential for the sustainability of areas such as the parish of Llandwrog that there is an adequate provision of housing for the local population.

“It is therefore important that local residents take advantage of this opportunity to provide information on their housing needs, and I would encourage local residents to present their opinions on the housing needs in the area.”

Aled Evans, Gwynedd Council’s Affordable Housing Officer added:

“We would urge every household to complete the form, as the results could be a means of supporting any future scheme implemented to provide affordable housing for local people.

The questionnaires should be returned to Aled Evans, Gwynedd Council Affordable Housing Officer by Friday, 27 February 2009.
