Talysarn School Project ~ August 2005

Children in Talysarn School have been working with the artist Luned Rhys Parri to create a huge mural that reflects life in the village.

The mural was shown in the Countryside Council for Wales External link: Opens in a new window pavilion at the National Eisteddfod in the Faenol Estate.

The mural created by pupils at Talysarn School and the artist Luned Rhys Parri

They used ‘papier mache’ to create work in 3D to interpret the area, the slate industry, the old quarrymen’s terraced houses, as well as looking at the area’s cultural heritage through the poetry of R. Williams Parry.

The project was funded by the Countryside Council for Wales through a partnership with the National Eisteddfod. It supports the National Assembly’s Communities First status for the area.

The mural has now been returned to the school.
The local people would like to bid for funding to re-create the mural on the gable end of the new extension on Talysarn’s Community centre.
