It is likely that Tŷ Mawr and the mill were built
on a medieval site of a Welsh royal court. In its grounds
is an 1860s quarry barracks, which have been adapted
by the Welsh Development Agency for use as offices and
a community centre. The village developed along the turnpike road between
the 1850s and the 1890s by the philanthropic Unitarian
managers of Pen yr Orsedd Quarry. Image: Llyn Nantlle Uchaf Y Ffridd, Baladeulyn, was the old home of John Roberts,
Llangwm, and Robert Roberts, Clynnog, the famous preachers.
